A stunning blown glass lidded flask dated 2010 by renowned master glassmaker Jean-Claude Novaro (1943-2014). The elegant shape is evocative of an angel - the stopper even has a halo attached to one side. Note the variety in size of the bubbles throughout the glass - an extremely difficult technique perfected by Novaro.

About the artist:

Jean-Claude Novaro (1943-2014), French, is considered as one of the greatest glassmakers of the twentieth century. Novaro was born was born in Antibes, and died in Monaco at the age of 72. Experts compare his work to that of Daum, Gallé, Marinot and Lalique. His vases are inspired by Art-Deco shapes and he revolutionized glassmaking techniques such as layering different materials (stones, oxides, powders) onto molten glass to create different textures and reflections.

In the 1990s, he invented a technique to make glass glow in the dark. Novaro’s work has been exhibited at the Corning Museum of Glass, New-York, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, Cathédrale de Rouen and many more. Famed French musician Johnny Hallyday was a close friend and supporter of Novaro’s work.

He is one of the few glassmakers to blow pieces weighing over ten kilograms and holds a Guinness World Record for the largest glass coup ever made.
